Do they value transferable skills?

This is the final installment of our three-part networking series.
"How am I perceived by others when networking or when my application is received in a slightly different industry: do they value transferable skills?"
We know that a lot of you are asking this question, particularly in light of the current market. We've all heard the news - there are too many applicants for each job, the job market is saturated, etc. So the question remains: if you're trying to make a pivot to a different industry, is it even possible?
The short answer is yes. Right now it is harder than normal to do this but it's not impossible. While some employers will take the "easy" road and hire someone with direct experience in the industry, not all will do so.
How you're perceived is a matter of how well you tell your story for the employer, networking, and what the employer values (this last part you don't have much control over).
