How AI Changes Hiring

How is AI is changing hiring practices and how does it affect you as the candidate?
I'm going to dive into some key areas that may impact you. The surprising part? A lot of it looks good, though I suppose only time will tell.
Here's the bottom line, which you can hear more about in our conversation with three recruiters in this past episode of Career B*tches: qualified and talented individuals are often missed because human recruiters cannot manage the sheer volume of job applications they receive. In addition, many applicants misrepresent their skills, so it's almost impossible to assess large numbers of candidates. AI enables ALL candidates to be considered, creating a more equitable process.
According to the Resume Now AI & Hiring Trends 2025 report, 91% of employers use AI to streamline everything from screening resumes to scheduling interviews. Most agree that AI is not a replacement for human decision making in hiring, only an augmentation tool.
The Benefits
New AI models work better as an initial filter than traditional applicant tracking system (ATS) software tools, identifying candidates with specific skills so recruiters can focus on fit and soft skills. According to Resume Now's AI & Hiring Trends 2025 report, 94% of hiring professionals say AI screening tools are effective at identifying top candidates.
This same report found that 73% of employers say their time-to-hire has improved with AI. Insight Global's findings in AI in Hiring 2025 corroborate this information, as AI is being used not only for resume screening, but also skills assessments, cybersecurity training, writing job descriptions, and scheduling interviews. As a candidate, you theoretically shouldn't have to wait as long for responses from employers.
The World Economic Forum and Insight Global argue that human oversight helps refine AI processes and create a more transparent and equitable process. The combination of a human-AI team helps to ensure fairness and reduce the potential for bias in the hiring process. The AI in Hiring 2025 report found that two-thirds of hiring managers believe AI will be able to remove or mitigate cultural biases from the interview process.
Whatever your stance is on AI, it's out there, and it's being used widely in hiring processes. It's important to be aware of where and how it's being used so you can understand the possible benefits and drawbacks.
